They work at both keeping the water out but also more importantly keeping debris out. Acting as an insulating layer in the process, your feet stay warm and dry despite anything the terrain and weather throw at you. Number one choice for the Spine race or any cold, wet mountain excursions. Can be worn with a liner sock or stand alone.
